After a successful European & Canadian tour we linked up with Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest on something special for the fans. The Battalion bandanna, pictured below, is only available at Ali Shaheed events where he’ll be passing them out to a lucky few. Those who get one can upload pics of themselves in the bandanna HERE. We’re all looking forward to seeing your face.

Linda Den

June 23rd, 2008

Once again we connected with one of our favorite faces, model Linda Den, for some product shots and Thai food. She was a trooper as we roamed the streets and alleyways of Downtown LA’s Fashion District thru the smells and sales, pigeon crap and mysterious puddles.

We love her look which is a mix of Pakistani and Asian. We also love her style & attitude… She’s a ride or die type chick. Look for more of her in Womynswear.

SneakArt

June 6th, 2008

2 ex Adidas and Puma designers got together on an idea that’s cooler than Mongolian Barbecue. Sneakskin is a type of sticker film that you can apply to shoes like an ordinary sticker and it will flex and move as though part of the leather. These skins come in a variety of colors and styles that allow you to switch up the look of your kicks as many times as you can afford. The coolest part is the custom area where you can upload your own designs and they’ll make you something no one else has.

Obama : Designed to Win

June 3rd, 2008

Today is the day that Barack Obama became the Democratic nominee to President of the United States. That’s pretty cool for a few obvious reasons. But you know all those already. So…

To the man with the illest political posters in history. To the campaign with the tightest website of any political personality ever. To the movement that spawned songs and speeches that will forever change the fabric of this land. To the future, the long road ahead to the white house.

Cheers.

R.I.P. Yves Saint Laurent

June 1st, 2008

Flags wave at half mass here at the Battalion fort. Fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent passed away this evening in Paris from a long time illness. He, along side Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, was responsible for putting Paris on the map as the fashion capitial of the world. He will be missed.

Take a rare look at one of the pillars of fashion at work on a runway show from 1962:

Mars Phoenix : Landed

May 25th, 2008

We were excited today to be watching the live stream of the NASA control room when the Mars Phoenix touched down on Mars after flying for 10 months. It was just like scenes out of your favorite sci fi movie. While a bit off topic, this was particularly exciting for me because I designed the original websites for the Cassini mission to Saturn for JPL/NASA back in 2003. I also used space exploration in the creation of the website for A Tribe Called Quest. But I also love robots and the way they went retro with the landing this time was brill. In the past few missions they’ve used an airbag type approach but the Mars Phoenix used the old school parachute to bring it down on the red planet. Landing was ‘better than perfect’!

If you’re on Twitter you can follow the @Phoenix and get updates on what its doing for the next 90 days.

By the way, the Cassini will fly its last mission past Saturn on May 28th.

Wooden Speakers

May 20th, 2008

Something fresh for your log cabin, because we like wood & we knew you wood. These floor standing speakers from Sound E Motion look about as cool as a pair of speakers can. We hope they sound just as good because they stand about 3ft tall and that’s a lot of visual real estate even in a big room. Ps: If you have to ask how much, don’t even bother.

DJ Bling

The influence of hiphop can be seen and heard in just about every medium and genre of music. Lately jewelry designers have been giving turntablism the finger with some highly detailed ring designs that feature a full turntable setup on top.
