This project brought new meaning to the term ‘the experience was its own reward’… I kidd. But seriously, I can’t begin to tell you the things I learned from and about these women. It’s not that I can’t explain, it’s that you don’t have enough time.

When considering the holidays this year, I didn’t want to just give you guys a postcard and say ‘have a good one’. So I got in touch with 6 friends and decided to create this series of Video Postcards called Beautiful Warriors set to classic Nat King Cole songs. Nat has this way of sounding holiday to me without ever speaking the words. And in a world where so much music comes and goes with the times, I decided to pick a score that I knew would be timeless.

We went for a classic beauty look reminiscent of some of Bruce Weber’s black and white work. I left out all of my typical tricks, sat still with the camera and looked for moments. I shot these films like a photographer. Each one is like a set of still shots set to music. I found a new appreciation for a woman’s neck and shoulders thru this project. And given all the raunch you can Google up these days, I’m hoping that some will dial down the palette a bit and stop to appreciate a smile and a glance…

And lastly… You’re welcome. I hand picked 6 Beautiful Warriors… 6 different colors and cultures. It is our most ambitious project to date to close out our first year in The LAB. In the studio it was just me and her. No words, no lights, no music. All we had was the sun, some gloss on the lips and time. I risked my life to bring this to you. And I’m proud to say I only fell in love 15 times. If you followed my tweets you saw that I died daily during the production process. It’s an occupational hazard really. And thanks for the cards and well wishes… I’m in rehab recovering nicely. LOL
